If you’re in the need of a road trip to Austin, you might want to consider a last-minute trip in the next two weeks.
From tomorrow through September 6, catch films galore at Prism 34, Austin’s aGLIFF (All Genders, Lifestyles, and Identities Film Festival). The festival returns to Austin theaters this year, but you can also access shorts and feature-length films virtually from the comfort of your own home. (Perfect if you prefer staying local.)
Among the highlights are Blitzed: The 80s Blitz Kids Story, several Queer Black Voices screenings, and Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same.
We got to see an advance screening of the centerpiece film, Boulevard! A Hollywood Story, and it’s fascinating.
The bizarre, true-life story follows two gay men enlisted by film legend Gloria Swanson to turn her hit 1950 movie, Sunset Boulevard, into a musical and the relationship the three develop.
As you might expect, things eventually go haywire and this documentary dives deep into a story that could only happen in Hollywood. Catch this film and so many more with a festival pass or purchase tickets to individual screenings. The choice is yours.
And the options are plentiful.
