Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Travel Tuesday: Get Gay In Guadalajara

Calling all athletes and enthusiastic spectators!

The Gay Games XI get underway this November in two different cities simultaneously for the first time ever. Both Hong Kong and Guadalajara will share hosting duties on two sides of the world, November 3-11, 2023.

We’ve never been to Hong Kong, but we can definitely vouch for the gay greatness that is Guadalajara.

From Dallas, it’s a quick 2.5-hour nonstop flight, so make plans now to attend the games and book while airfares are still affordable (currently about $400 roundtrip on American Airlines during those dates.)

While many of us in the LGBTQ+ community flock to Puerto Vallarta for a little queer fun each year, its fellow Jalisco city, Guadalajara, has tons to offer, too.

During our visit late last year to attend the kick-off ceremonies for this year’s Gay Games festivities, we fell in love with the city. The friendly destination feels like a mini Mexico City—home to incredible culture, fantastic food, a vibrant LGBTQ+ scene and, soon enough, thousands of athletes from North America and around the globe.

Even if you’ve never competed in a sport before, you’re welcome to participate in the Gay Games, one of the most welcoming athletic events in the world.

Register now to secure your spot in one of several sporting events, from swimming and badminton to bowling and dodgeball.

Sporting events are free to attend as a spectator, but if you register for the games as a supporter for approximately $200 US (depending on the exchange rate), you’ll get access to the spectacular opening and closing ceremony events and access to the Gay Games Village.

Not all details have been announced yet, but we highly encourage you to book a flight and hotel, then check back often for more details.

At the very least, you’ll deserve a gold medal in vacation planning.
