Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Travel Tuesday: Pride By The Sea

Someone’s 50th birthday celebration.

A guys’ trip with the gays.

The opening of a new OXXO.

We really don’t need an excuse to visit Puerto Vallarta, but if we did need one of the top reasons ever invented, it would be a few days at Vallarta Pride.

We’ve only been once and it was one of the most festive and inclusive Pride celebrations we’ve been to anywhere in the world. And as it turns out, Vallarta Pride is our excuse du jour for returning to our favorite city in Mexico this May.

This year’s events take place May 17-28, so you can opt-in for an extended 12-night vacation to experience every single moment. Or pop down for a long weekend at the beginning or end of the Pride schedule.

Among the many activities are a March on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, Miss Vallarta Pride, a 3K and 6K United By the Colors of Diversity, the Pride Parade and Block Party on Thursday, May 25 (so plan accordingly!) and the Drag Derby in the streets (one of our favorite events that pits drag queens against each other in hilarious obstacle courses and challenges).

Where to stay for Vallarta Pride

Hotel options are plentiful in Puerto Vallarta and we have some favorites. We’ll be staying this year with a bunch of other invited gay journalists at the Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort and it’ll be our first-ever all-inclusive experience in PV. We feel 100% confident recommending it because they’re welcoming us queer folks with open arms. The property features a spa, 14 dining outlets, a full stocked (free) mini bar, adults-only rooms and a separate adult pool, and easy access to the beach. And did we mention——WE will be there!

Best of all, Vallarta Pride takes place simultaneously with Restaurant Week, one of the best times to visit because you can dine on some of the city’s incredible food at incredible discounts. Because even if you’re staying at the all-inclusive, sometimes you just need to get out and about for a change of scenery and flavors.

Hope to see you all in Puerto Vallarta next month!
