Curtain Up: Uptown Players Announces 2023/2024 Season

Dallas’ very own LGBTQ-focused theatre company Uptown Players has officially unveiled its lineup for the 2023/24 season, featuring five shows — including two regional premieres to the world premiere of dazzling holiday revue.

Holiday Glamour and Glitz

First up, ring in the holiday season from December 1-10, 2023, with “Jada Bells – A Holiday Extravaganza.” North Texas drag performer Jada Pinkett Fox, also known as Lee Walter, promises a holiday-themed spectacle brimming with classic festive tunes and contemporary hits.

Ballet Beneath the Surface

Next, March 7-17, 2024, immerse yourself in the world of ballet with the regional premiere of Terrance McNally’s “Fire and Air”. This intriguing performance unveils the complex relationship between ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev and trailblazing dancer Vaslav Nijinsky, taking place at the 6th Floor Studio Theater in the Wyly at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

Broadway Like Never Before

May 2-5, 2024, is all about celebrating Broadway with “Broadway Our Way.” This annual fundraiser by Uptown Players showcases the amazing talent of their ensemble, reinventing timeless show tunes with a unique twist.

Prom Night with a Difference

In July (12-28), experience the regional premiere of the “The Prom”. The musical revolves around a high school prom that gets canceled due to anti-gay prejudice. When Broadway actors unite to support a young girl wanting to bring her girlfriend to the prom, a heartwarming story of individuality and the power of acceptance unfolds.

A Journey through LGBTQ+ History

The season concludes August 16-25, 2024, with the iconic play “The Boys in the Band”. This powerful exploration of friendship, identity, and the struggles faced by gay men in the late 1960s offers a poignant insight into a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history.
